I booked this Airbnb to be close to the beach. It was a bit farther than the one I stayed at last year but this one was $168 for the two nights where that one was going to be $235.
The location is less than a half a mile to the beach and less than a mile to The Strand. That was perfect for me since I intended to walk to both but I wanted to be closer to the beach.
The Airbnb is behind this blue house. The parking in front of the house is free to the public and can be difficult to get. I parked in the driveway.
The blue house is across the street from the Elk’s Lodge.
This is the driveway. I was given an option for cruise parking by the host. The option was $35 to park in the driveway with a camera on my car or free parking on the street. I already had cruise parking booked so I didn’t take either option.
This yellow house is also an Airbnb.
Mine is a smaller one around the corner.
This is my airbnb.
This Airbnb has a kitchen and bathroom downstairs and a bedroom and balcony upstairs.
The water pressure in the shower was almost non-existent so you may want to use the kitchen sink for washing your hair.
The stairs remind me of the ones that take you to the crown of the Statue of Liberty. The big problem here is if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
I also didn’t want to carry my 50-pound suitcase up these stairs and there was no good place to open it up downstairs other than the floor. I think a luggage rack that could fold up behind the front door would be a nice, cheap addition to the place.
This is the bedroom. It’s supposed to sleep four. I’m guessing that’s two on the bed and two on the pull out couch.
The TV is pretty typical for Airbnb. You pretty much need to log into your own subscriptions to watch any live TV. That has been the case for my other two Airbnb stays in the lower 48. In Alaska both of my hosts provided me with guest access to their streaming subscription.
One of these times I’m going to remember to pack an off air antenna so I can watch basic channels without a subscription. It would be a nice $5-10 upgrade to these Airbnbs.
This is the door to the balcony.
The floor didn’t feel very sturdy. It felt like I was walking on a roof.
The hole didn’t make me feel any better. I only came out here once.
You can walk over to the yellow Airbnb balcony and vice versa. That floor looks and feels more sturdy.
That building is The American Legion. They played music in their parking lot from 9am-9pm that you could hear inside the Airbnb.
There’s a motion light on the back of that blue house that shines through the bedroom windows when it’s activated. The first night I thought it was on all the time at night.
I couldn’t sleep with that light on so I came out here to see if it was something I could control. There were people from the yellow Airbnb sitting on my couch talking at 1am. They moved to their area and continued talking until at least 2am when I finally got to sleep.
The next night they weren’t out there and the light wasn’t on. That was when I figured out it was a motion light.
This is what it looks like in the room when that motion light is activated. This is around 1am.
I ended up hanging a towel to block out most of the light from the door, but there was nothing I could do about the window.
In the morning it looked like someone had thrown up on the rocks below the yellow balcony. I’m guessing the people who were out there must have done some serious drinking.
They also threw their cigarette butts down there. Not only is this where I have to walk, but this is just a few steps from where my car is parked.
The second night the motion light was off but it was windy and there was a noise coming from the back that sounded like someone hammering nails.
It also got cold and I couldn’t find any additional blankets. I thought that was odd since the place sleeps four with a pull out couch. I did find this heater which worked good for me. I don’t know how it would be for 2-4 people sleeping here on a cold night.
The quality of your stay here is dependent on the people staying in the yellow building.
