Damajagua Waterfalls in the Dominican Republic

on
May 16, 2025

I decided to take advantage of the $50 off of excursions NCL offers and book the Damajagua Waterfalls Full Experience tour. Full price is $109 for adults and $79 for children. After the discount I paid $59 for this excursion.

They do have these little carts you can catch a free ride to the end of the pier on.

I just followed the sign for tours.

I found my tour.

We waited 30 minutes after our tour meeting time before the tour in front of us left.

They just came around and took our tickets and gave us wristbands 20 minutes after the tour start time.

We are finally on the move.

The bus is pretty good. This is an 8:30 excursion and we’re pulling out at 9am. Indiana is the guide. Nelson is the driver.

The #1 mode of transportation here is the motorcycle. Gas is $6 per gallon here.

It is a 45-minute hike to the waterfalls. They’ll provide water after that. We can’t leave anything on the bus. Locker rentals are available for $8. Phones are good if you have a waterproof case only. I have two.

Mardi Gras and Jade at Amber Cove today.

These are plantain trees.

We have arrived. Here you can get your helmet and life vest on the left. Locker rental is on the right. If you want you can rent a locker and water shoes for $8 each. You must have closed toe shoes.

I needed a locker for my towel, wallet, and change of clothes.

This is the last chance to use the bathroom.

Here we’re getting a little briefing before we start.

These our our guides.

They did a photo op on the bridge.

I personally would not take young children on this type of excursion. We  just started and I can already tell it’s going to be a problem. I would say age 12 and up is good.

Here we had a chance to sit down and get another briefing while we rested.

The gap is widening. The mom started dragging the kid at one point.

They have another photo op on this bridge.

We have reached the top. It’s all downhill from here. We had another chance to sit down for a few minutes and get our final instructions.

We have to have our helmets on at this point.

We walked up just to walk down.

We have to take a ladder down into the falls. There are two ladders and two lines.

That is one of the ladders.

The first place we went is that cavern up ahead for a group photo.

This is what it’s like in there.

Down here we had a few small falls that we slid down.

This is the biggest one we’ll encounter today at 25 feet high. The line is quite long.

I got a good video of that one. There is an option to slide down or take a ladder down.

This is a smaller one. Our last of the day. Where the guy in the blue shorts is putting his left foot is the spot you jump from.

Sliding or walking down stairs are also options.

You can strap your helmet on when you get to a point where you don’t have to wear it anymore. I also have my locker key there.

We are heading back.

Rookies…

More rookies.

My health app says I climbed 34 floors and walked 4.3 miles on the excursion.

After dropping my equipment off, I grabbed everything from the locker and headed to the bathroom to change. Forget the stalls. I’m using this bench.

I’ll take the big one.

If you want to use your phone at the falls, you will need a waterproof case. I would recommend purchasing water shoes. You must have closed toe shoes. If you rent water shoes they charge $8. I think I paid $20 for mine six years ago.

I would bring a towel and dry clothes to change into. Be prepared to spend $8 on a locker rental because we weren’t allowed to leave anything on the bus. I would also recommend wearing a t-shirt underneath the life vest. People who didn’t were complaining about it. I don’t like the idea of wearing things many other people have worn so that gave me a buffer. I also wore a baseball cap under the helmet.

I enjoyed the excursion and would’ve liked to have done more but we wouldn’t have had time to do more falls. We pulled up to the port at 2:25 and back on board was 2:30.

I would consider going back for the full 27 on a longer port day. You can’t do that through the ship. You have to book an outside tour like Iguana Mama. I booked all 27 with them six years ago but the water level wasn’t high enough so I took a refund and did a city tour instead.
