Discover Tortola

on
June 6, 2025

Around the corner was a line of people waiting for the excursion. It turns out they had space for two people so me and one other solo got to jump the line and get on a bus immediately.

I got a very special bus. The driver’s name is Mejo. He has a unique Transformers bus with Christmas decorations. He plays loud American music from the 50’s-90’s. He sings and encourages others to sing. When he pulls into one of the stop, everyone pulls out their camera for his bus.

He said he doesn’t normally do this tour. He has his own Transformers tour company, but they asked him to help out today. He said he’s giving us his tour, so I can’t guarantee you will get the same Discover Tortola tour unless you book with this driver.

Mejo gave leis to the ladies.

And picked a flag bearer.

Maria’s by the Sea Hotel

This is a look at the back and other side of his bus.

Our first stop is a view point.

We are back on the move.

We stayed in the bus while Mejo got out and told us about this wall that was painted by a famous artist.

We have now reached our second stop which is another view point.

There was a bathroom and a small store so I stepped inside and grabbed a beer.

We are about to go down and around that beach.

At this stop I was able to procure a small bottle of local rum.

It has sugar cane in it.

Our next stop is Stoutt’s Lookout.

Mejo recommends a pina colada or Bailey’s Banana Colada here.

I got a Bailey’s Banana Colada.

I’m not sure I trust that picnic table.

I found a chicken family.

We are back on the move.

Mejo is picking flowers for the ladies.

This is the Sugar Mill Hotel. Mejo says it is the best place to stay here.

Surfers

This bridge we’re going over has the Caribbean Sea on this side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side.

Our last stop is Pusser’s. We are given 30 minutes of time to shop here.

I found the grocery store.

They do have a bar.

After that we headed back to the port.

This is the power plant that runs all of the British Virgin Islands.

This is a cement plant.

I highly recommend doing a tour with Mejo if you are in Tortola.
