Encore: St. Thomas

Good morning from St. Thomas! Today is going to be all about viewpoints. I have a ticket on the Sky Ride that takes you up to Paradise Point. Then I have a tour in the afternoon that takes us up to Mountain Top.

Here is today’s Freestyle Daily.

I got dressed and ran downstairs. I’m trying two cafe lattes this morning.

I poured them in my big cup and dribbled a little on the counter. I know the guy that works here is standing behind me probably waiting to clean it. But I really don’t like people having to clean up after me so I make quick one step long reach over to the napkins. He says “No, No sir. I’ll clean it up.” I need to get his name for the comments and he needs good tips at the end of the week.

Let’s step outside.

We’re in port with Holland America and Disney. You can see the Sky Ride on the mountain to the right.

This is a good time to get pictures of the Spice area since it’s empty.

I have no idea what this means.

Two Grey Goose screwdrivers.

Taste and Savor seem equally packed, so I went with Savor and was still able to get a table immediately.

As long as I keep getting tables right away it’s fine. But I don’t understand having two identical dining rooms across from each other.

What if I needed a table for six and had to wait at one but it turns out they had a table for six at the other? Do you have to go over there and wait in line again to find out?

I think it should be one dining room. Have two check-in desks but allow them access to tables on the other side if they need them.

They just paged about 30 people and asked them to report to the Texas Q restaurant. I’ve never seen anything like that. I’m guessing it’s for an excursion.

The Treasure is Disney’s newest cruise ship.

This feels like a big ship for HAL. I just looked it up. It’s a part of their Pinnacle class which is their largest ship class at 100k gross tons.

Across the street is the entrance to the Sky Ride.

I’ll give you one shot from up there.

I’m going to skip ahead.

I just got back from Paradise Point. I have some time to kill so I’m going to stop at the Rum Hut that caught my eye on the way here.

I had a Bushwacker out of a machine at Paradise Point, so I asked if they made them fresh here. I was told they did so I got one.

I don’t know if it was that second Bushwhacker or both of them together, but I felt it when I got up.

I’m switching to beer. In the port seems to be the best place. It’s $4 here. Rum Hut was $5 and the Tap and Still had a $4 happy hour at 3pm so it’s probably 5+ now.

I am heading back for my tour.

I’m going to skip ahead.

Back on board was 5:30 and I got back at 5:35.

I took a shower and changed and then we were sailing away.

There was a five minute wait at Taste so I just walked to the Manhattan Room and got in right away.

I’m not a fan of Wheel of Fortune as the main show.

That screen in the elevator that was showing you how to get to the gangway this morning shows ads and entertainment previews normally

They have the Not So Newly Wed show in the main theater at 9:30 and adult comedy in the social at the same time. Ultimately, I decided on comedy.

I got down to the social 20 minutes early, but it was already full.

I decided to switch gears and go for the other show because I got in 8.5 miles today, I’m tired, and I don’t want to stand for an hour and a half.

They have this show on Carnival, but it’s called Love and Marriage. They pick the contestants a little different. On Carnival they take the couples that have been married the longest and the shortest amount of time. And I don’t remember how they pick the middle couple.

Here they take different time frames and ask for volunteers. They all come up front and have a dance competition. Then the crowd picks the winner in each group.
