South Beach
I just checked into my South Beach Airbnb. I’m going out to grab lunch. This Mojito Bar which is on the same block as my Airbnb caught my eye.
This size medium classic mojito came to $28 after tax and 20% auto gratuity.
Next I am heading to lunch at Puerto Sagua.
It’s crowded.
I was able to find a spot at the counter.
Midnight Sandwich
Sweet Plantains
Mamey Shake
Collins Avenue
The window at Italian Trattoria caught my eye.
This also looks like a good place.
This is San Gines
This is a free trolley. I don’t have the patience to wait for it.
A lot of scenes have been filmed here. Scarface, The Sopranos, Analyze This. Probably some non-mob scenes. The Bodyguard.
I’m going to try to get down there.
I walked north all the way here. When I leave I’m going to walk south along the beach.
It took some doing but I got down here. I had to avoid a couple of people checking hotel keys and then act like I was with a group at one point. I was going to try to get a drink but it looks like it’s all either included for hotel guests or done with room charges. But I got the money shot I wanted.
They have a nice looking bar overlooking the pool area.
I’m heading out the front door.
Let’s walk the beach back.
The ships are starting to head out.
I believe they’re prepping for a wedding.
I headed west past the buildings to see if I could catch a sunset.
Then I headed north to Lincoln Road Mall. This has been in some movies. The Birdcage for sure.
Yes I walked down to this one to see if dogs were sitting at a bar. I’ll save you the time. They weren’t. It’s just a pet store.
I walked east to the end of the mall then headed south on Collins until I got where I could cut over to Ocean Drive.
Ocean Drive
I think this was the building used for the birdcage in “The Birdcage.”
I think this is the real life Birdcage.
I got to the end of Ocean Drive and found a place to eat. It’s getting late so a lot of places are closed.
Steak tacos
Short rib tostada
After that I stopped a block away at this place called Ted’s for some beers and to watch Texas beat Kentucky in basketball and the U.S. beat Canada in Hockey.
This is South Pointe Park. The guys behind the no fishing sign are fishing.
President’s Day fireworks
This is the oldest building in South Beach. It was built in 1916.
I think this is what I was seeing from little Havana that time.
I’m calling it a night. Tomorrow is embarkation day.
