Waikiki Luau & Rock-A-Hula

Since I was going to be at Waikiki at the end of the day, I wanted to find a Waikiki luau. There are a few challenges here. The biggest is most of the luaus don’t operate on Saturday. I did find a few that do.

I ended up booking Rock-a-Hula. I found a discount code that allowed me to save $15. I believe all of the ship luaus were in the $250-350 range and required you to leave in the afternoon which would’ve taken a big chunk out of my Honolulu day.

The instructions said to meet on the 4th floor of Royal Hawaiian building B which is a big open air mall.

Check-in is to the right. The dining area is up ahead. If you purchased a package that includes a real flower lei you pick that up on the left.

You need the credit card you paid with for verification. It’s a good thing I have it with me.

You can also get a picture with Elvis which you can purchase later. I hear this Elvis is from the New Orleans area.

I asked for a seat on the end since I’m left handed and they accommodated me.

They have pineapple in actual pineapples around the table as an appetizer.

This is the Mai Tai that is included in the price. Additional Mai Tais are available for purchase.

There you can see a set table with the pineapple.

I believe you put the flower over your left ear if you’re single and right ear if you’re married. I’m just going to leave mine right there.

They have some pre-dinner entertainment. You want to be seated closer to the middle aisle for the best view.

She is selling photos with Elvis for $30.

It’s time to eat. I’m not a big buffet person but when in Honolulu…

These poi rolls are actually pretty good.

Teriyaki chicken

They have a couple of carving stations at the end.

There is the beverage station with water, coffee, and tea. I drank a lot of water since I just came back from the Diamond Head hike.

I tried to get a little bit of everything.

These two at the bottom are roasted sweet potato and roasted dragon fruit.

Tofu poke

More entertainment

It’s dessert time. They set this up down by the drink station.

I got the coconut thing and sherbet.

After dessert they had hula lessons and a ukulele player.

Dinner went from 5:45 to 7:30. Now it’s showtime until 9pm. The theater entrance is straight ahead and to the left.

The show was in this big comfortable theater. They only used the middle section and allowed empty seats between groups.

I had a great spot in the center. I’m glad I didn’t pay for VIP seating because it couldn’t have been much better than this.

Diamond Head

They started out strong with a guy hanging by his feet.

These are the hosts.

Elvis

He’s passing out the scarves and kissing women. I’m surprised about the kissing.

He gave one to a kid on my row.

Michael Jackson

Moana

Fire show

Afterwards you can purchase pictures.

You can also take your own pictures with the stars of the show.

I thought this was a good dinner and show. It worked good for me as far as allowing me to spend more time doing other activities in Honolulu. The people on the ship excursions paid more, went farther away, and had to meet in the afternoon. When I go back I would like to try one on the beach. But being in the big comfortable theater was nice as well.
