Waimea Canyon in Kauai

Waimea Canyon is the main attraction in Kauai. It is known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. I booked the Waimea Canyon Tour through Carnival. At the time it was listed for $75, I got it for $$60 with a 20% discount sale then got an additional 10% back for booking it with a Carnival credit card. The tour actually cost me $50 but it’s currently listed for $92.

There are only two tours leaving right now. This is my bus straight ahead.

It’s a very nice, modern bus.

That’s a golf course.

The Kauai coffee farm is the largest in the United States.

Our first stop is the Hanapepe Valley lookout. We had 10 minutes to take pictures here.

We are back on the road and now crossing the Hanapepe River.

That’s a Buddhist Temple.

That’s the Captain Cook Monument in Waimea near his landing site. Cook was the first European to discover Hawaii January 20, 1778.

We have reached the Waimea Canyon Lookout. You don’t have to pay that fee if you’re here on a tour.

Waimea Canyon is known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It’s dimensions are 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and 3400 feet deep at the lookout.

Here you can see the 800 foot waterfall known as Waipo’o Falls.

We stopped in the town of Waimea for 30 minutes. You could do some shopping or get something to eat. I’m going to try to do both.

I decided to get a dirt shirt.

Then I got some sliced pineapple to eat on the way back.

Our last stop is spouting horn. We have 20 minutes here.

Our driver said this botanical garden across from spouting horn is a good place to go if you have more time. It’s 350 acres. A lot of movie scenes were filmed there and a lot of people get married there.

He said a lot of famous people have houses in here. He said Drew Brees has two.

A stone chimney and foundation is all that’s left of the Old Sugar Mill of Koloa which was the first on the island in 1835.

We left at 8:45 this morning and we are pulling back in at 1:30pm. I do recommend seeing Waimea Canyon during your stop in Kauai.
