Good morning! We have a 10am arrival in Maui so I have a few hours on the ship this morning.
When we get to Maui my plan is to take a Uber or Lyft to the Iao Valley State Monument. Then return to the ship in time to get ready for my sunset excursion on Haleakala.
Decks 9 and 10 are soaked.
This is the coffee line three minutes before opening. It looks like they’re starting early.
Vera is working Java Blue this morning. She wasn’t at The Alchemy last night. Maybe she won’t again until after this cruise. This is Nikola’s last cruise and she is his replacement.
That was a 20 minute wait for coffee. Large Americano double cardboard.
This is in the Liquid Lounge tonight but I’ll probably miss it with my sunset excursion.
Everyone is eating at the bar today. It’s a different bartender than the one who told me I couldn’t yesterday.
Big Chicken
We’re getting taxed by Hawaii now. That’s 46 cents for a screwdriver.
We are pulling into Maui.
That’s a beach you can walk to from the ship.
This guy missed an elevator. As the doors were closing he tried to grab them and force them open. He’s willing to break an elevator to avoid that 10 second wait for another one.
It took 10 minutes to get off of the ship.
This is where you meet the ship excursions.
I’m walking the green mile. The guy in front of me never stops talking.
I did a wait and save option with Lyft on my way over. That gave me time to go in the store for some 100% Kona coffee.
I ended up trying a drug store first but they were locked up. I don’t want to wait for someone to unlock it so I’m going over to Whole Foods.
The regular Kona coffee is not locked up but we want 100% Kona.
A look at the local beers at Whole Foods.
100% and not locked up.
They had a bunch of self checkout stations which was nice because I only had two minutes until my driver was there.
The Maui Mall is where I ordered my Lyft and I stood right under the sign.
I guess I did good. The driver said this park and the crater are the two places he tells people to go. He said the park is like Hana without having to go to Hana.
For full coverage of the park please check out Iao Valley State Monument.
I am in another Lyft heading back to the Maui Mall. I’m going to check it out before heading back to the ship to get ready for my excursion.
It was an $8.75 ride there (with a $5 discount) and $19 back.
You can see planes landing at the airport from here.
I wanted to find something to eat in this mall but couldn’t find anything local.
This ice cream place is popular. It’s really small. Only one group can go inside at a time.
I got two scoops of pineapple. It was $2 cash only.
I’m going to head back over to the ship. I have an hour till my excursion meet time and I want to take a shower and change clothes.
Everyone is loading up at Ross. What’s the deal with that? Do they not have Ross in California? Are they looking for Hawaiian clothes for their luau?
On this map you can see the Iao Valley and needle on the left. In the lower right you can see Haleakala which is where we’re going next.
I wanted to get this new burger at Guy’s. But the burgers looked like they were sitting around for a couple hours so I’ll wait till a sea day
I got an Uncle Jerome from Big Chicken.
I showered, changed, and I’m heading out for my next tour. I’ve heard it’s cold on the crater. I don’t have anything long sleeve. Maybe I should’ve gone to Ross myself. But I put on a pair of jeans and I have a Mets jersey I threw over my t-shirt. I didn’t bring one of my heavy ones. It’s the cool base version but it’s better than nothing.
I’ve been there.
I’m going there.
I am there.
We got a fancy bus.
For full coverage of this tour please check out Haleakala Crater Sunset Tour.
I got back in time to catch the last 20 minutes of The Children of Hawaii show.
I was going to get deli for dinner but the line was a dozen deep so I just grabbed pizza.
I had a couple filthy martinis from Nikola.
Then one from Marina.
We have a new comedy host at the late night comedy showcase.
We have new comedians as well. This is Alycia Cooper. She was on season 4 of America’s Got Talent.
This is Joel Lindley. I’ve seen him before.
I’m off to bed. Tomorrow is a big day in Honolulu.
