New England Getaway: Travel Day

Good morning. We’re flying to New York today and boarding Norwegian Getaway tomorrow morning. I found a nice parking spot on the end to leave my car in for the next ten days.

The shuttle from the The Spot is crowded! I’m in the seat by the driver.

The driver’s first stop was Terminal E but this is not by my check-in area. I did make note that it’s a short security line here. Usually it’s short everywhere at DFW but I did once save a lot of time by walking down to the next checkpoint.

I’m good with my suitcase weight.

And my carry on size.

I go to get my boarding pass from the kiosk and it says “you’re too late to check-in.”

A worker walks up and says “LaGuardia?” Yeah. She walks me over to the counter and asks the lady to check to see if it started boarding yet. I say no they changed it to 10:15. The counter lady says yes and they changed it right back?

“What?  That change was at 2:40 this morning. I’m signed up for text alerts. The app still says 10:15.”

The lady gets off the phone and says they haven’t started boarding yet. I check my suitcase and get in the security line. It’s only 15 deep.

I’m by E18 and my gate is E31. I’m running like OJ.

I get to the gate there are people there but not many. The door is closed. I ask the counter ladies if they started boarding yet.

“No sir. This flight doesn’t leave until 10:15.”

WHAT?!? I’m running through the airport like a madman (literally) because your people told me the flight was changed back to 8:40.

“I know. We’re trying to get them to stop telling people that.”

I returned to my gate at 9:35.

Boarding started at 9:43 with group 1 (me).

This is me by the window.

This cruise was actually last August and the flight is during a Saints preseason game so I’m going to try to catch it.

Hopefully my streaming WiFi code works even though I’ve switched flights.

The flight attendant tried to make a joke saying our final destination was the Bahamas. Today is not the day for that.

We’re taxiing out. I put in my bloody mary order.

Oh wow. The flight attendant has her own personal Tabasco packets that she gave me. I need to look into those.

I went with chips for my first snack.

I’m testing the video streaming with another game before mine comes on. It seems to be working good.

I’m going with the chocolate almond bar for my second snack.

The picture isn’t great but it’s working.

We’re starting our final descent. I grabbed a Dasani. These are like gold in New York.

It’s a pretty easy terminal here. It’s small and old but easy.

That’s where I catch the bus that will take me to the subway.

I needed to use the bathroom. You have to go next door to the departures terminal for that.

The departures terminal is a historic building.

I didn’t miss anything while I was gone.

That’s me!

I highly recommend the City Mapper app for navigating the New York public transportation system.

M60 is the bus I want.

Last time I was on this bus I stayed on too long and ended up in Harlem.

Now I’m on the train to Manhattan.

It’s a short walk to the hotel from here.

Next time we’ll review the Sheraton Times Square.
