Planet Hollywood Cancun: Day 2

on
May 3, 2021

Good morning! I slept pretty good last night but there was a lot of walkthrough noise in my building in the midnight hour.

I think the issue is my building is a very convenient way to walk from the sports bar and night club area to half of the buildings on the adult side. And it’s not even like walking through a building. There are no doors. It’s just like a covered walkway–but it’s the hotel hallway. And voices echo in there pretty bad. Especially loud drunk voices.

This is the beginning of my hallway coming from the night club and sports bar areas. If you were in buildings 11-13, walking down this hallway would be a good way to get back to your room at night.

Once you come around the corner the hallway becomes enclosed and loud voices really echo. That little entrance on the right goes to my room. This wall on the right on the other side of that movie poster would be my bathroom wall.

I have quiet neighbors but that could change at any time. One of the problems I heard about leading up to this trip is that not all of the rooms on the family side are complete and they are having to put some families on the adult side.

One of my neighbors is definitely a family side room on the adult side. I think it’s just a mother and middle school or high school daughter. All they do is sleep on that outdoor bed or in the loungers. That doesn’t bother me at all. On the other side I’ve only seen an older guy in passing a couple times.

I did see about four rooms down a family with a young child in the swim out. I’m not good with kids ages. I’m guessing it was 1 or 2 years old. They were putting it in one of those circle floaty things. It just makes me wonder if you have to worry about the whole swim diaper thing in the swim outs while young kids are in them. It’s something I’ll be keeping my eye on.

Here is a look at today’s activity schedule.

I’m down on the family side of the beach this morning. They have a bar that looks just like the beach bar I was at yesterday on the adult side. This one is called the Surf’s Up Beach Bar.

This is the family pool area with the Point Break Pool Bar.

In addition to the main pool they also have two smaller pools on the family side. This is one of them.

The coffee shop opens at 7am which is in 10 minutes. I’m going to start heading that way.

This is Gusto Italian Restaurant. I may try them for lunch today. Guy’s burger Joint is in the background on the left.

These are the sports courts.

Fuel is the coffee shop here. They also have pastries and ice cream. It’s not quite open yet so I’m going to stop in the buffet first which is right across from it.

I’m going for the omelet station.

This buffet is not what I’d be used to on a cruise ship. It’s more like Golden Coral probably is. They seat you like a restaurant. You have to wait to get silverware and drinks from a waiter. How about you just bring me my omelet while you’re at it?

The omelet was a little different. The eggs just seemed thin.

After breakfast I headed over to Fuel for coffee.

I got a regular black coffee and a white chocolate latte.

I was surprised there was no line for coffee but as soon as I left a group of 10 came in.

I saw a big family heading towards the lobby with suitcases. That’s going to be different for me seeing people check in and out every day. I’m used to everyone coming and leaving the same day on cruises.

I don’t think I can get a Bloody Mary until 10. All of the bars seem to be closed until 10. This is going to be a weird time for me if I’m having breakfast and coffee in the 7am hour and having to wait until 10 for anything else. Beer in the room would be an option if I wanted that.

Back down at the beach this is where you can get a sailboat or kayak.

There aren’t very many people on the beach this morning.

They have showers when you come over the bridge from the beach. It’s good to have something to get the sand off. They were mopping my hallway when I left the room. They’re all around cleaning cleaning cleaning like on a cruise ship. When I was sitting down drinking coffee a lady was cleaning the other chairs.

This is the hot tub and far side of the adult pool.

These are some of the pool cabanas which are available for rental on a daily basis in the $100-150 price range.

I think I’m just going to request maid service every other day. There are two sides to this bathroom and I haven’t touched this one yet. I have two beds. Really all I need is more water which I just need to remember to grab before I go back to the room and I’ll be fine.

It’s 10am so I can get a Bloody Mary from The Scene bar.

Jesus made this for me. It’s not quite as spicy as I’d like it to be. We’ll have to work on that.

I was talking to Jesus about my Bloody Mary situation. He said you can order Bloody Mary and Mimosas in the breakfast buffet area in the mornings.

Jesus made my second Bloody Mary more spicy.

This is the menu for the Scene Bar.

I need to stop by the main hotel lobby to schedule my covid-19 test so I’m going to head that way.

They even have a guy hanging from a rope cleaning the windows. I tried to tell him this is the first floor. Nobody listens.

If you were checking in the family side lobby, this is where you would come from.

This is where you would sanitize.

This is what you would see when you enter. This ceiling is like the dreamscape in the atrium of a Vista class ship. The graphics move and change. You may see sea turtles swim through the water there. It doesn’t film very well but the still images look good.

The regular front desk and guest services is to the left. Guest Services are the lower desks on the far right of this picture. That is where I need to stop to schedule my COVID-19 test.

On the right side is Star Class check-in and the Planet Hollywood Gift Shop.

You may recognize that green Mitsubishi Eclipse from The Fast and the Furious.

Back on the left to the right of the the Guest Services desks you have the entrance to the Premier Bar. There is also an exterior entrance to that bar.

And on the right you have PH Experiences area which is where you can book excursions.

This is the Premier Bar.

If you step outside of the lobby you are at the area where they have the shows at night.

Guest Services took down my name and room number and gave me this slip of paper when I asked about scheduling my COVID test. I don’t know why they can’t just give you this when you check-in, but I have to do it online with this QR code and these 18 steps.

After completing the online steps I received this email.

My transportation is set for 9:10 departure a week from today. Lomas transport is what was included in the package I purchased. I had a great trip with them yesterday so I was very nice when their hotel rep starting blowing my phone up last night with texts about scheduling my return trip.

The Lomas rep wanted me to meet with him this morning at the PH Experiences desk to confirm my return trip even though he could just text me. I assumed he wanted to sell me excursions. I would’ve done it had it been convenient for me, but he was at another hotel when I was in the lobby collecting my COVID test information. He wanted me to meet with him at 11:30. I nipped it in the bud and just got my transfer time from him via text message.

I was going to try to the Italian place for lunch then hop on the lazy river but apparently the Italian place doesn’t open until 12:20.

I’m looking over at Guy’s Burger Joint from the Italian place and I don’t see any lines. I’ll check that out.

Guy’s opened at 11am. I’m the only person in the place at the moment. A few people are outside eating. I can’t get over how packed this was yesterday at 3pm and how dead it is now. Maybe a lot of people left this morning. Or they get a really late start to their day.

Much like the coffee shop this morning, just after I started eating people began coming in. First two people walked in, then 12 more behind them. My timing is pretty good today.

This is the lazy river.

That will be my next bar.

I guess it’s just grab and go.

Here is a taste of the lazy river.

I had to fight a strong current but I made it here.

I guess you have to watch these bartenders. This  lady next to me ordered a Miami Vice and got one with no alcohol. My pina colada does have rum in it. I wonder if he did that because the lady has kids with her.

See where they run into problems is they have machines with non-alcoholic pina colada that they serve to kids. So it all looks the same. Mine was made fresh in the blender.

This is like a spicy beer that someone was doing so I tried it. It’s got like hot sauce and beer and then that spicy rim. I can’t really taste the hot sauce. Mainly just the rim gives it the little bit of spice. So its kind of like beer with ice in it which is no good. I like the spicy rim. Not a fan of the beer on ice.

I’m getting out of the lazy river and heading to the beach. It’s not very crowded here today. I’ll show you what I mean.

That is the family pool on the other side of all of these empty loungers.

This is the family beach.

This is the Star Class pool.

This is the Adult Scene pool.

This is the Adult Scene beach.

And the Baywatch Beach Bar.

They are grilling by the adult pool.

I had to return to the room because I blew out my flip flop fighting the current to get into the bar on the lazy river. I didn’t have room in my suitcase for backup flip flops so I guess I’m going to be flip flop shopping.

I’m done with my water activities for the day so I showered and changed into some dry clothes.  I am back out and about. This airplane caught my eye. It looks like it’s the playground for the kids club.

That is the waterpark across from the kids club. We’ll take a closer look at it one of these mornings before the kids are out there.

I headed over to the pool bar and asked Jose to make me a sweet rum drink.

The beer drinking contest is happening at the Adult Scene pool.

I enjoyed that drink so I asked for another but now Jorge is the bartender and he made it a little different. It’s still good but not as good.

The beer drinking finale.

I moved down to the Baywatch Beach Bar. Roberto made me a Havana nights. Now this is the same drink I had last night at the Twist Bar. But this one looks better and tastes better. The one last night was all green. Roberto speculates it was mixed instead of layered and now I’m getting the melon first instead of everything mixed.

If you want straws you need to bring your own. They don’t have any here. I did hear they have reusable straws for sale in the gift shop for about $6. I have a pack of 500 individually wrapped plastic straws I bought for $8 on Amazon about two years ago that I am still working on.

I thought this was water when I first saw it but Roberto said it’s called Peach Bone. It’s pretty good for something that just looks like water.

I was able to get a reservation at the East Sushi and Teppanyaki for 7:30pm.

I have time to kill before dinner so I stopped by the Planet Hollywood store to flip flop shop. They didn’t have any flip flops. Apparently the resort credit book has a $50 coupon for that store but you have to spend $50 to get $50. I may get a T-Shirt or something but I don’t need $100 of stuff from there. It would be great for a family though.

They have a bunch of vendors setup for the show tonight. I wonder if any of them are flip flop dealers.

There were no flip flop dealers in amongst that group. Tonight’s show is the Mexican show. I think it should be a good one since we’re…in Mexico. If it were the Italian show or something I’d feel less confident. Well it’s time to go see the Japanese show.

Someone messed up because I ordered steak and salmon but only got steak.

I decided to stop by the buffet for dessert since they didn’t have any at East.

I’m impressed by their number of live cooking stations. I saw them cooking shrimp, steak, lamb chops, pasta, pizza, burgers, salmon.

Now we’re getting to the desserts.

I grabbed a couple of items from that last station. I liked the one on the left. Not so much the one on the right.

Just as I’m about to eat my dessert, this happens.

They have like a kids Mexican show going on in the theater.

The Mexican show itself was good as expected.

After the Mexican show they had a Mariachi band play for 45 minutes.

I peeked in the sports bar before heading back to the room. They had karaoke going on last night but not tonight. It seems like that may be an every other night deal. That’s all for today. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
