Mahogany Bay Cruise Port

on
February 14, 2022

Mahogany Bay is a Carnival owned cruise port on the island of Roatan in Honduras. The cruise port has bars, restaurants, retail shopping, and a free beach with some extras you can pay for.

Beach

Let’s start with the main reason people like to stop at Mahogany Bay: The Beach.

There are two ways to get to the beach. You can walk. Or you can pay to ride a flying chair.

This is the building you would go to for all of your flying chair purchases. The ticket costs $8 for kids ages 3-11 and $14 for anyone 12 or older.

If you are going to take the free route as I do, this is the way you want to go. Note the bench that looks like a flying chair to the left if you want a photo op.

There’s a nature trail along the route to the beach if you wish to take it. That does include a little extra walking.

WiFi is $5 for the day on the beach if you wish to purchase it.

This is a good ship photo op you don’t want to miss on the way to the beach.

They do have a couple of stores if you need to pick something up along the way or if you want to do some shopping on your way back to the ship.

They have bathrooms in this area as well.

Water sports rentals are to the left.

This is a look at the price list.

Wifi – $5/day
Lockers – $6 + $6 deposit
Float – $9
Snorkel – $20
Paddle Board – $18
Clamshells – $26
Umbrella – $26
Zayak – $30
Sea Hammock – $30
Sea Clam – $60
Paddle Boat – $26 (2 pax) $39 (4 pax)
Kayak $19 – single, $26 – double
Hobie Kayak – $30 (30min) $45 (1hr)
Aqua Cycle – $60 (30min, 4 pax)

Back behind the water sports rental area they have a basketball court and a soccer field.

Moving to the beach. All of these yellow chairs are free. Umbrellas are $26. Clamshells are $30. Double clamshells are $60.

Towards the end of the beach they have private cabanas available for rental. Each cabana is air conditioned and includes a hammock, water floats, and two lounge chairs.

The cabanas have a semi-private beach area separated by this fence.

Back behind the cabanas they have this hut with fish therapy.

At the end of the beach they have a pier you can go out on. I would imagine some excursions may leave from this pier.

Behind the restaurant at the end of the beach they have a volleyball court.

They have a set of bathrooms on this end of the beach as well.

This is what the beach itself is like.

When you get in, you don’t have to go far before there’s a big drop off. This is up to my shoulders.

In this picture you can see people standing pretty far out there. That’s a sandbar you can swim out to.

They have a set showers you can use to clean up and wash all of the sand off.

Bars and Restaurants

The closest bar to the ship is Fat Tuesday. It will be to your immediate right when you enter the Mahogany Bay cruise port.

Inside the beach area of the cruise port there are several food places most of which have bars.

This place that was cooking up jerk chicken was right when you enter the beach area.

Just past the jerk chicken place is Playa Tortugas which has food, a bar, and plenty of seating.

The upper portion of Playa Tortugas is the end of the zip line. We’ll look at the zip line a little later.

All the way down on the end by the cabanas and the pier is another restaurant and bar called El Hideaway.

Shopping

This is the duty free store everyone has to walk in going to and from the ship.

We saw the two stores in the beach area earlier. Instead of going right to the beach we’re going left to where all of the other shopping is.

If you collect the Harley-Davidson poker chips as I do, this shop is a must.

The red covered area ahead is where you would exit the cruise port. They have a cigar stand under the covered area.

Excursions

If you are meeting a Carnival excursion, there will be signs right when you enter the Mahogany Bay cruise port.

All of the white signs on the stands in these next two pictures are excursion meeting areas.

If you are meeting a non-Carnival excursion that would be outside of the port area. You would take a left and look for the red roof buildings. Exit under the red roof building.

Once you exit the port area, you can book outside tours straight ahead. If you take a left and go over the hill, you will find any outside tours you may have booked.

If you haven’t booked a tour yet, there will be plenty of guides over the hill trying to get you to go with them. Over the hill is where I met my tour when I booked the Glass Bottom Boat excursion a few years ago.

To the right outside of the port area is the zip line entrance.

Moving back to the beach restaurant. This is the end of the zip line.

That completes our look at Mahogany Bay Cruise Port on the island of Roatan in Honduras.
