Epic: San Juan

on
August 24, 2026

I just took a Lyft from the San Juan airport to my Airbnb. While I’m waiting on the Airbnb to be cleaned, I decided to get one of these pineapple pina colada drinks from the stand outside.

I finished my drink and still had time until my Airbnb was ready so I went looking for a store to get some beer for the room.

This is surprising. I haven’t seen Brooklyn Lager outside of New York City.

Miami is less surprising due to proximity.

I wanted to stick with local beer and a local snack.

My Airbnb was ready while I was out. For a full tour, please check out San Juan Beach Airbnb.

I brought some instant coffee in case of emergency. But there appears to be a couple coffee shops that are walkable.

I changed clothes, grabbed a couple beers, and got in the water.

We had a nice rainbow for awhile.

A Delta plane just flew through the rainbow.

The shorter building on the left is where my Airbnb is located. That umbrella out front is where I bought that pineapple drink earlier.

After I finished my beers I headed down the beach looking for a bar.

Let’s see how the big spenders at the Royal Sonesta are living. This hotel is $700 per night right now. It goes up to $1,000 per night next weekend.

Let’s check out their bar.

I like it.

Watermelon Wave

Let’s head back and get ready for dinner.

One for the road.

There’s UFC tonight so this is a good place to eat at.

Chicken mofonga

I closed out of that outdoor bar and moved inside where they have the fight on the big TV.

It’s like a sports bar back here.

These guys at the bar in their mid-20’s have a 6am flight to Buffalo. It’s 11pm, they’re smashed, and they’re planning on staying for all of the fights. That’s probably going to be after midnight.

This is my favorite San Juan beer so far. The Ocean Lab brewery is about two miles down the road.

When I got in this room I was hearing things outside and thinking “that window is open.” But it isn’t. After about the 3rd bug kill I said “there has to be something with that window.” They have these things taped on with packing tape. If you aren’t going to fix it right I don’t know why you wouldn’t use duct tape. Maybe they don’t know about duct tape here yet.

I’m off to bed. Tomorrow is embarkation day.
