New Orleans Hotel: Maison St. Charles

on
April 5, 2024

The Maison St. Charles is a Garden District Hotel that offers a Park N Cruise Package. That package starts at $169 and includes up to 7 days of free parking during your cruise. Additional days cost $15 per day.

I have two experiences with Maison St. Charles. The first time was about a decade ago. They were overbooked and didn’t have a room for me. They did make up for it by refunding my money and getting me a free suite at a partner hotel in the French Quarter. It was a bit of an inconvenience but I was happy with their accommodation.

My second experience with them was this past December. That stay is what this review is based on.

I frequently find good prices for the Maison St. Charles on Hotwire. In this case I locked it up for under $115 after taxes and fees.

The hotel is one block from a St. Charles streetcar stop and 1.3 miles from the cruise terminal.

Mr. Ed’s Seafood is conveniently next door with an alternate entrance from inside the hotel.

This is a look around the lobby. Upstairs is a terrace you can use.

They have a business center consisting of two computers in the lobby area.

Complimentary tea, coffee, and water is available in the lobby.

Just past the lobby is a sitting area, a fountain, and the alternate entrance to Mr. Ed’s Seafood.

The back left building is where you will find the pool.

The hotel parking is across the street from this building.

The back right building is where I was. Elevators are to the right.

This shows the route we took from the lobby to here.

This is a standard room with two queen beds.

This is the view out in front of my room. The building to the right has a breakfast buffet in the morning for a $14.99 charge on the first floor.

If you want to eat breakfast in here you can purchase a voucher at the front desk.

We ate at Mr. Ed’s Seafood.

It was a 15 minute wait for a table so we grabbed bar seats. Here is a look at the menu.

I got Orleans pasta and a side of jambalaya.

Down there is fish and shrimp and a cup of gumbo.

If you’re looking for fast food there’s a Wendy’s next door, Popeyes next to that, Canes across the street, and Burger King a couple blocks down.

One of the nearby places I visited while I was staying here was the Pontchartrain Hotel which is just down the street.

They have live Jazz in the Bayou Bar downstairs.

Their Hot Tin rooftop bar is one of my favorite spots in New Orleans.

In the morning I bypassed the free coffee at Maison St. Charles and headed down to the Silver Whistle at The Pontchartrain for a Cafe Au Lait.

Then I took a walk through Coliseum Square Park to Magazine Street for breakfast.

I had Bananas Foster French Toast at Surrey’s.

I enjoyed my stay at Maison St. Charles. I think it’s a good, reasonably priced option if you’re wanting to stay in the Garden District.
