Hamilton

I looked into attending Hamilton the last time I was in New York. It didn’t show any seats available so I picked different shows. It seems I just tried to book too early (six months out) because I checked back closer to my trip and there were plenty of seats available.

This time I waited until three months out and tickets were available. I wanted to keep my evening free so I looked for an afternoon show. I was able to find one at 2pm on the Wednesday I was in New York.

I entered the Wall Street Subway Station at 1:25 and exited the train at 1:42 in Times Square. It’s supposed to be a five minute walk from the 42nd Street/Times Square subway station to Richard Rodgers Theater on 46th Street. It took me 10 minutes with traffic and stops for pictures.

One thing about the afternoon show is there were definitely more kids there. I don’t think I’ve seen kids at any of the evening shows I’ve been to. I think there was a field trip in line with me for this one. I figured the odds were a large group of kids is going to be up in the balcony and I purchased a pretty good seat for this one.

I would normally get a drink before the show but I decided to wait until intermission since I was cutting it so close to the start of the show.

It was quite a mess when I got inside. Fortunately the walkway to my seat was immediately to my right so I didn’t have to fight through this crowd.

Despite the crowds it was only three minutes between getting in line outside and arriving at my seat.

There are some kids down here but they seem to be with their parents not large groups of kids. The leg room is just enough for me.

One thing I noticed is the seats on this side are offset where my left leg isn’t directly behind the seat in front of me. The middle section doesn’t have that. It also would’ve cost me an additional $50 to sit across the aisle from my seat.

I could’ve saved $50 by going on the end down there. I’m glad I didn’t do it. Reviews called that a partial view seat and I believe it. I highly recommend researching your seats ahead of time. I use a combination of A View From My Seat and Seat Plan. I’m very happy with the seat I picked.

At Broadway shows you have to turn your phone off during the show. It’s intermission now so I am able to turn it back on.

I braved the crowd to get a drink during intermission.

I went with Hamiltini.

I collect these cups. I have one from every show I’ve been to. It’s disappointing that Chicago has been running so long and didn’t have one. For that one I had a generic Broadway cup.

I had no problem bringing this into the theater. As you may remember, Wicked did not allow drinks in the theater. That is the only show I’ve had an issue with. One of the benefits of getting the drink at intermission was I was able to see other people in the theater with drinks during the first act.

 Intermission views.

This is my seat. It’s Orchestra row H seat 2. They have an odd numbering system with this being the first seat in the row but seat 2. There is no row behind me. That little step up on the side of my seat is where I kept my drink during the second act. It was perfect. I’m not sure anyone in the theater had a better seat than I did. I highly recommend this seat.

After the show I recommend stepping across the street to the Hotel Edison.

Right inside that door is where this scene from the Godfather was filmed.
