NOLA Escape: Sail Away
Norwegian Escape is in port with Carnival Valor today. Valor is going to sail away first. Carnival ships in New Orleans usually sail away around 4pm while Norwegian ships are around sunset or a little later.

Valor is making the turn around Algiers Point. We’ve got the Creole Queen in the shot now.

Steamship Natchez and Creole Queen here with Valor in the background.

These two buildings are expensive places to live. I know during their heyday here Reggie Bush and Chris Paul both lived in the one on the left and they shared a chef.
The building on the right is the old World Trade Center. It just reopened as a Four Seasons a couple years ago. Condos there range from $2-13 million. Some of the people rumored to have bought in there include Drew Brees, Ellen Degeneres, and Saints GM Mickey Loomis.

The tall building in the center is the 45 floor Plaza Tower. It was built in the 1960’s. At the time it was the tallest building in Louisiana. The asbestos that was used in the 60’s led to black mold in the 80’s. It’s been abandoned since the 90’s. There was a court order to tear it down last year but a new company that bought the property wants to turn it into an assisted living facility.

You can just see a little bit of the superdome between the entergy building and the Hyatt.

The current tallest building in the state is the Hancock Whitney building–formerly One Shell Plaza at 700 feet.

The Crescent City Connection (CCC)

That’s an American Cruise Lines boat for river cruises. I believe they go between New Orleans and Memphis. They normally park in this spot when Norwegian isn’t using it.

This is going to be my spot for sail away. On the other side of the wall is The Vibe Beach Club.

The Algiers Point ferry

These people just walked by and they think we’re going under the CCC.

St. Louis Cathedral

If we could see right now we’d be looking at Chalmette battlefield where Andrew Jackson with the help of some pirates triumphed over the British in 1815.

They call this English Turn because it’s where the French turned the British around and kicked them out of the river.

Belle Chase Naval Air Station

We will be passing Carnival Liberty later tonight on the river.

Chevron

It’s too dark to see anything else so I’ll wrap up this sail away post with a picture of us passing Carnival Liberty.
