Dickens On The Strand in Galveston

on
January 12, 2026

This weekend is the 53rd annual Dickens on the Strand in Galveston.

Dickens on the Strand is held the first weekend of December. It’s a festival with a 19th century London theme. We will see many people dressed in Victorian costumes.

There’s a 2pm parade which is what I was timing my arrival for.

The parade has begun.

I have migrated to The Tremont House which is a very popular cruise hotel.

We have a break in the action as a man has been involuntarily unhorsed.

Prognosis negative

I’m going to walk around. I don’t know if they’re going to continue the parade or not.

They have some wooden cutouts you can take pictures with.

This is the main stage where the entertainment is going to be.

I heard scotch eggs are the thing to try here but they are sold out.

The pie line is very long. I’m going to walk around.

Here’s a close up look at their pie offerings.

We have a drummer and bag piper on the main street.

I found another scotch egg vendor.

Apparently it’s an egg wrapped in sausage and deep fried. I’m not a big breakfast sausage person so this isn’t for me, but a lot of people love these.

This guy is reading The Night Before Christmas.

Let’s take a look at the other food options.

I’ve seen people walking around with these metal cups. I was interested in one but apparently you can only get them by purchasing unlimited soda.

These are the options. You can just walk up and refill them once you’ve purchased your cup.

I didn’t see a menu telling me how much it costs and the line is very long so I’m just going to skip it.

It’s snowing. It has to be fake because it’s 60 degrees outside. I don’t see a snow machine though.

They have a snow yard for the kids.

There’s no line here.

That’s $8 for a 24 oz. Shiner.

We have a street artist.

Carnival Breeze is pulling out.

We have another street performer.

She does a balancing act.

This is a Christmas choir.

I found where the “snow” is coming from. It’s just bubbles.

This is a Scottish sheaf toss. They are basically trying to make a field goal with a pitch fork and a bag of rocks.  The bags are 56lbs for the men and 28lbs for women.

I decided to try a pie. Normally I’d pick Steak & Mushroom off of this list, but I’ve never had a Scottish Meat Pie.

This is the Scottish Meat Pie.

On the way out I found a blacksmith shop.

They have more events and activities throughout the weekend. I have other plans on the beach so this will be it for me. It is a nice way to spend a December weekend in Galveston though.
