New England Getaway: St. John

on
July 6, 2026

Good morning from St. John. I stopped by the studio lounge and grabbed two double lattes before heading outside.

Here is a look at the studio breakfast pastries.

The gangway supposedly opened at 7 but I don’t see anyone off of the ship. My tour meets at 8;40 in the theater.

Now I can see people getting off of the ship.

It’s a bit chilly right now but it’s supposed to warm up later.

The excursion I have is the “Trolly Round St. John” excursion which was $49. With my $50 discount it was free. It goes to reversing falls which is the main thing I wanted to see here.

For full coverage of the tour please check out Trolley Round St. John.

At the end of the tour we had the option of getting off uptown and making our own way back to the ship or just staying on. I got off.

Most who got off went to city market.

After walking through the market I headed back to King’s Square to get a better look at it.

That’s my Lucy the Lobster Trolley on another tour.

This is the historic theater in town. It was built in 1912.

This used to be a hotel that both Queen Elizabeth and President Kennedy had stayed at.

Trinity Church is the oldest Christian congregation in Saint John.

The original wooden church was lost in a first in 1877. This stone church was built in 1880.

I read somewhere that this place is good for scallops.

The tour guide said you can get lobster roll and fries for $26 here.

The lobster roll deal is actually two lobster rolls and fries for $26. Or you can get a sampler which is chowder, a lobster roll, and fries. I went with that. The total was $29.50 with a Moose Head.

This is in front of the police museum

I’m taking the Sky Walk to the mall.

This is a model of the Marco Polo.

I’m heading back to the ship now.

This container village is at the port. I didn’t see it this morning because tours are on the other side of the port.

I decided to get a Beaver Tail. It took way too long. I was there 20 minutes before they took an order from anyone. It was 30 minutes total to get mine.

I got the mEHple which has pure maple butter, maple sugar crunch, and chocolate drizzle.

I got a Moose Head as well.

This would be the entrance to the container village from the port.

I’m heading back to the ship.

There are the trolleys.

This is the first time I’ve seen the Bake Shop open. On the outside they have a gelato window and someone is buying it. It’s too cold for that.

I got a screwdriver from the bar.

It’s 30 minutes until all aboard so people are really coming back now.

Saint John High School.

They’ve been paging a lady for a half hour. They just paged her one more time before we pulled out. I don’t know if she made it back or not.

Partridge island was like the Saint John version of Ellis Island. They used it to quarantine Irish immigrants in the 1840’s due to famine.

Jalapeno-cucumber mojito at Sugarcane

Guinness at O’Sheehan’s

I went by both Taste and Savor. They both had people sitting in couches but no line so I walked up to Savor. It seemed a little chaotic. Someone told the host that some tables were ready when they weren’t. He asked me to sit down. I went to The Manhattan Room instead and got right in.

Corn bisque

Caesar salad

Cajun spiced shrimp

Black Forest cake

After dinner I stepped outside to check out the sunset.

Then I headed to the atrium and grabbed a beer for The Perfect Couple show.

After that I headed to the theater. The main show is a fly on singer named Teacake.

After that I headed to the comedy club. I was able to get the good seat at the bar.

Ryan Wingfield

Back to the Future is on the big screen in the atrium at 11pm. I’m heading to bed. Tomorrow we’re in Halifax. Good night!
