Trolley Round Saint John

on
July 3, 2026

I booked this through Norwegian. It was a $49 tour so it was free after my $50 discount. It has a stop at reversing falls which was the main place I wanted to visit in Saint John.

The tour ticket had a meeting time of 8:40am in the theater.

They’re going to call tour by tour.

The lady with all the signs directed me outside.

I see the trolleys on the end of the bus line.

All of the trolleys have names. I’m on the Lucy the Lobster. Bruce the Goose is next to us. They also have William Whale and Justin Beaver.

We are pulling out.

The Saint John population is 130 thousand. They have 28-foot tides. Low tide today is 9am and high tide is at 5pm.

Partridge Island is like their Ellis Island. They had used it to quarantine Irish. There’s a Celtic cross on the island like this one.

We are coming up on King’s Square which is a park in the downtown area. This park has been here since 1785 but it wasn’t named King’s Square until 1844 when it was named for King George III.

the Queen and JFK stayed in this hotel..not together

This is the Admiral Beatty Complex. It used to be the Admiral Beatty Hotel. Notable guests include Queen Elizabeth and President John F. Kennedy.

Tax is 15% here. Gas is $6/gallon. Saint John residents go down to Maine to shop a lot and gas up while they’re there. Sometimes they’ll go to New Hampshire where there is no tax.

This is the Red Rose Tea mansion which is now owned by a pig farmer.

Clifton Manor is also known as widow’s watch. It has a room at the top where the wives of ship captains could look for their ships.

We are going up fort Howe Hill. This is the second tallest hill in Saint John. The military group that was here came from Halifax. This is a replica of the barracks that used to be here. It later housed the first police department in Canada.

This is reversing falls which is the one spot I made sure was on the itinerary when I booked this tour. We were given 15 minutes here.

This is the Gregory house. The people who lived here never got their furniture because it was on the Titanic.

This arena is where the Saint John junior hockey team plays. It holds 6,000 people.

They have a series of connected buildings that allows them to walk from uptown to the waterfront in the winter without going outside.

We have the option of getting off uptown and making our own way back to the ship or just staying on. I got off.

That concludes the Trolley Round St. John tour. This tour was free for me and accomplished my goal of seeing reversing falls as well as giving me some information on Saint John.
