Staten Island Ferry
The Staten Island Ferry is a great way to see of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline without spending a lot of money. The ferry runs every 30 minutes and is free to ride.

I do have a little bit of time before the next ferry. I’m going to stop in one of the stores for an adult beverage.
![]()
I was looking for a local beer I haven’t had yet. I paid about $8 for this one. The guy in the store said you can drink these in the terminal and on the ferry.
![]()
I have a pretty good view here.
![]()
I’ll zoom in a bit to show you what I’m looking at.
![]()
Everyone started walking to the exit door so I’m just following the crowd.
![]()
There’s a guy trying to sell Hanes socks for $5.
![]()
That’s the Brooklyn Bridge over there.

This is the inside of the ferry. They have a lot of seating in the middle and windows on the side. I grabbed a window spot on this side thinking the ferry was going to turn around and I’d have a view of the Statue of Liberty. That didn’t happen. I guess the ferry has a bridge on both sides and doesn’t turn.

I got off of the ferry to use the bathroom and grab another beer. I guess it’s a quick turnaround because I missed the ferry. I’m going to drink this one then probably get another to take on the ferry. Then I’m heading to Katz’s because I’m hungry.

It’s too bad that bar isn’t open. That looks like an outstanding view.
![]()
This will work.

There’s also an upper level you can sit at. I don’t have that much time before the next ferry so I’m not going to bother with it.
![]()
![]()
Actually I think you’re better off spending a half hour here to take in the view.
![]()
I grabbed another beer and I’m heading back on the ferry. This side is the cheapest beers I’ve had in New York at $6.
![]()
I got a primo spot this time now that I know the ferry doesn’t turn around.

Nobody crowds around the window for the return trip. They’re like “meh I’ve seen that.”

It would be great if this bar were open.

I am off of the ferry and heading to the Broad Street station to take the subway to Katz’s.

I was concerned about long lines. I must have caught it at a good time in the late afternoon because It’s not too bad.
![]()
I got in line at cutter 4.
![]()
Then I moved down to cutter 3 because she knows what she wants.
![]()
Then I moved down when another cutter had no customers.
I ordered one for here and one to go. I guess when you do that they wrap both up.

Just in the area where I’m sitting I spot a picture of Emeril.

And Larry David.
![]()
Bring cash if you go. I had to break out my emergency $100 bill for that one.
![]()
![]()
I made it back to the hotel.
![]()
The guy misunderstood me. I asked for one sandwich there and one sandwich to go. I thought he wrapped both up to go. What I thought was the second sandwich is just pickles.
That makes sense because I thought it was more like a $20 sandwich but the math wasn’t working out with what they charged me. So that was actually $28 for the one sandwich.
That’s disappointing but I’m glad I found out now. I’m going to Chicago tonight (The musical not the city) and at least I now know I need to bring food back afterwards.
