New England Getaway: Day 1

Good afternoon. I boarded Norwegian Getaway later than usual today since I tour the USS Intrepid prior to boarding. Rooms aren’t quite ready yet but most of the ship is already in cruise mode. Here is a look at the lido deck.

I’m looking around for a spot to watch that Manhattan sail away. I think I’m going to go with the water front. This is pretty well blocked off.

Rooms are ready so let’s check out my studio cabin.

I don’t understand why anyone would want to have a window looking out at the hallway. On Encore they change this to a virtual window. Then on Prima class they moved the TV to this location, adding additional storage space on the other side of the room.

Let’s take a look at the studio lounge.

I like having a bar but it’s a better setup on Epic with the barstools. You can’t really sit at this bar.

These are the afternoon snacks.

They have some board games in here.

Let’s see what’s upstairs.

More seating and more board games.

I headed to my favorite bar on Norwegian: The Sugarcane Mojito bar.

You pay extra to go in the ice bar and have two drinks. It really doesn’t interest me, but people do it.

Syd Norman’s is fun if you can get in. I like the ones that have the stage on the far side so I can walk in and get a standing spot at the bar. I think this one has a stage at the front so the best I can do when it’s full is peek around that corner at the stage.

There was an incident during sail away. I had my own area. Nobody was near me. My drink was by my feet. Then a drunk lady backed into me and knocked my drink over while I was filming our crossing under the Verrazzano-Narrows bridge. She walked away. I cut my finger cleaning up the mess.

I’m grabbing a beer to take to dinner.

Apparently I’m not the only one trying to eat.

I decided to try the noodle bar which is another free option. The hostess said she’d let me in today because she has an open seat but tomorrow it’s reservations required.

She has a lot of empty seats

I got another beer.

I got really good with the wooden chopsticks from Panda Express. I need to work on the heavier ones. These are different.

This is the chocolate dessert. It’s too much chocolate for me.

Dinner ran slow so I was late to the Welcome Aboard show. I had to find a standing spot at the back bar.

I found there were a lot of open seats on the lower right section so I went down.

Kelly Terranova I’ve seen for years. He was on one of my first Carnival cruises a dozen years ago.

I don’t know what this is but it’s called Time’s Up and it’s just old people on the stage.

I got out of comedy at 8:50 and there was a 9pm thing at Syd Norman’s so I thought I’d try to get in. I get down there and they have a venue full sign out. I just walk by and go to the bathroom.

I walk back by and a bunch of people took standing spots. But with the stage setup they couldn’t see anything.

The comedy club doubles as a piano bar.

The Bliss Lounge becomes the night club at night.

I guess I’m the only one who hasn’t been to my room since they delivered luggage.

I went down to the atrium to get my double shot of grey goose for tomorrow morning.

I went back to the room and turned the TV on for the first time. It forced me to watch a safety briefing at 11pm. 

Wicked and Trap are on the two movie channels. I’m off to bed. Tomorrow is a sea day. Good night!
