Regal Christmas: Galveston Day 1
I just made it to Galveston around 1:30pm. I am planning on going to the Dickens on The Strand parade at 2pm. That’s about a 20 minute walk from here so this is perfect timing. I’m parked at my Airbnb. Check-in isn’t until 3pm but since I have plans, I didn’t request an early check-in. I just needed a place to park. My Airbnb is actually around the corner from this one.

This is my Airbnb. For a full review of it, please check out Airbnb near Galveston Beach. Let’s head to The Strand.

Since I’m going on foot I’m going to pour a couple beverages I had in the cooler. This is an Abita Banana’s Foster I picked up in New Orleans a couple weeks ago.

Ashton Villa, built in 1859, was one of the first brick structures built in Texas.

Texas Heroes Square

Texas Heroes Monument

The George Sealy Mansion is now a conference center.

That’s pretty ironic that they call it Open Gates…

We are approaching the strand. Dickens on The Strand is a 1800’s London themed festival so we are going to see a lot of people dressed this way.

Let’s go check out the ships.

Carnival Jubilee and Breeze are in port today.

That is the Dickens on The Strand boundary.

The parade is getting ready to start. I was told I need to walk down a block to be where they’re going to be starting.

And we’re underway.

For full coverage of this please check out Dickens on the Strand. I’m going to skip ahead.

I am heading back to my Airbnb for check in.

St. Mary’s Cathedral

Galveston’s World War II Memorial

I made it back to the Airbnb and got my remaining Abitas in the refrigerator. I have three Bananas Fosters and one Fluffer Nutter.

I grabbed a Bananas Foster and I’m heading down to the beach bars and check out the college football and UFC situation.

I expect to end up at Brick House. I’ve heard they have UFC Pay Per View fights there. But I’m going to check out the other bars between here and there.

This is where I watched the first half of the Texas vs. Texas A&M game last year. Let’s see what it looks like.

The back room is a different story this time. They have like vacation slides on the big screen and a band playing.

Float is the bar with a pool.

Poop Deck has only the Virginia football game on.

The Spot is where I expect to be tomorrow. They have NFL Sunday Ticket.

That is my Airbnb from last year. Definitely a better spot for the beach. It was going to cost an additional $70 over the place I’m staying at now.

There are about four or five Airbnbs in that house. Mine was the top floor on the left with the three windows. Parking was on the street with a permit.

Why isn’t anyone developing this land? You could put five hotels here.

This is where I expect to be for the rest of the night.

The bar was almost empty and they have UFC and college football on.

Shiner

Wild Mushroom Flatbread

Last year I picked up a Southpaw here to bring back to the Airbnb.

That’s a heck of a way to lose your belt.

Of course. I was there three hours drinking beer and I never went to the bathroom. I waited for the fights to be over. When they were, the bathrooms were closed for cleaning.
I need to find a bathroom. That’s not helping.

Beerfoot to the rescue.

This lady pulls up into the crosswalk and I stand there for awhile. Finally I decide she must be waiting for me to go. So I go…and she almost drives into me. Rolls down her window. ”I didn’t see you at all.” Probably because she’s playing on the phone. There’s reason to sit at a stop sign that long when nobody is coming.
Now that I look at this picture of her car I can see she was indeed looking down at her phone.

I’m off to bed. Good night!
